Activities of The Cultural Center
         Open to public everyday and on Saturday and Sunday ornamental Buddha images are
open to the public and dealers are allowed to bring ornamental Buddha images for bartering or
sale, as well as dealers of used articles to bring ancient appliances for sale, in the area of the
ground floor of Cultural hall.

 

        

         Located in Tambon Pha Jook, about 20 kilometers awayfrom Uttaradit Province. Follow Highway No. 1045 up toHighway No. 11, turn right for about 3 kilometers towardPhitsanulok Province, turn left intothe asphalted road about 17 kilometers to arrive at Wat Phra Fang Sawangkhamuninat .In the past, the area of this Wat Phra Fang Sawangkhamuninatwas the location of Sawangkhaburi Town or Fang Town, an old town in the days of the capital of Sukhothai, and the placewhere Chao Wat Phra Fang gathered during Thonburi era.Among the ancient remains of Phra Fang Sawangkhamuninat is Phra Mahathat Chedi of Fang Town a large old vihara. The front wall has a large door in the middle.

         It is avery beautifully carved wooden one, presentlymaintained at Thammathipatai Temple in theprovince town Uttaradit. Inside the viharn there is onelarge main Buddha image, an old Phra Ubosotwhere was once the established place of Phra Fang,a Buddha image, which King Chulalongkorn ubsequently brought to place in BenchamaborphitTemple, Bangkok.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

      

         Located in town near the In Chai Mee & Samranruen Intersection, Tambon Tha It, inside the Dhammasapha building. One of the most interesting things in the temple is intricately carved ancient door of Wat Phra Fang Sawangkhaburi Muninat. This pair of wooden doors are the craftsmanship of Ayutthaya era. Each door is 5.30 m. x 1.20 m. x 0.16 m. It has mazy different patterns such as Pum Khao Bin, Kanok Kan Khod and Kanok Bai Ted. The edge of the right door has a very beautiful Thep Phanom pattern. As Wat Sawangkhaburi Muninat fell into ruin in 1951, Uttaradit Sangha Group applied to the Fine Arts Department for permission to keep these wooden doors at the Dharma Council in Dharmathipatai Temple.This is an interesting temple in Uttaradit.

         It is situated in Tambon Ban Koh Sub-district, Mueang Uttaradit. Inside this temple stands a very beautiful ancient ceremony hall. It was built in 1742 which was the end of Ayutthaya era and the dawn of Rattanakosinera. The front of the gable was carved into a Garuda subduing a Naga which was the signet of the Second King of the Chakri Dynastic. It was in the middle of Khrua Thao Kan Khod and Thep Phanom patterns. Inside the ceremony hall, there are paintings on three walls. Now they are fading away.

 

         A carved wooden Buddha image 80 centimeters wide, measured acoording to the
lap size and 2 meters high. Looking very beautiful, it is installed in the Phra Ubosot of
Doi Kaew Temple. Presently, it is being displayed on a borrowing basis in the hall on the
second floor of the Cultural

 

 

 

         Located on Paedwa Road opposite of the Governor’s House, the hall is two storey woodenhouse built in the reign of King Rama V. Originally, it was the house of Khun Phinetjeenphak, whoemployed a Chinese contractor and mobilized a great number of skilled workers to perform fretworks in an architectural style blending the Thai and Western styles together in a beautiful and elaborate manner.

         The interior of the Cultural Center building is used for displaying important antiques of the people of Uttaradit.

 

 

         Yarnmart a three-layered open carved wooden litter 73 centimeters wide, 3.50 meters
long and 1.45 meter high is a work of craftsmen in the late part of the Ayutthaya era. Four such
“Yarnmarts” were reported to be found in a report by Prince Narisaranuwattiwong when he made an inspection tour of northern towns in 1901, The first one was found at Manorom District, Chai Nat Province and two others were found at Wat Phra Buddha Chinnaraj , Phitsanulok Province and fourth one was found at Wat Tha Sao , presently being displayed at the Cultural Hall.

 

         It is a Scriptures Bookcase in a form of Thai art where the figure or gold wire on a
lacquer base, a work of craftsmen in the early part of the Ratanakosin era They are mostly
containers and appliances like pots jars, bracelets and stone axes.

 

         Located in Moo 4 Tambon Seanto, Mueang Uttaradit district, 8 kilometers away from
Wat Phra Fang is one of Uttaradit’s most reputable archelogical site. Its compound
retains a viharn of Lord Buddha’s Foot print, a sermons hall and Phra Ubosot houses wooden
Buddha image, black lacquered and gold glided by artisam of the early Rattanakosin period.

 

 

 

         Located in front of the Town Hall of Uttaradit Province, built and inaugurated on
February 20, 1969 in honor of Phraya Phichai for his valor, bravery, patriotism and
self-sacrifice. When as the ruler of Mueang Phichai in the Thonburi era, he had perform many
particularly in 1873 when the Burmese attacked Mueang Phichai, he marched his
men to intercept the Burmese forces, defeated them and repelled them home. In that battle,
one of his swords broke, but he gained victory over the Burmese forces.
For the said deed, he was called “Phraya Phichai Daphak” (Daphak means broken sword).

 

         Located near The Monument of Phraya Phichai, exhibits mythical metal or Lek Nam Phi
in Thai terminology, ancient arms, amulets, the world’s largest sword. It is 9.24 meters long,
weighs 450 kilograms, involves use of 557.8 kilograms of Nam Phi iron, has a sheath and a
handle of Pterocarpus indicus wood embedded with pearl designs, girdled with etched silver
casings. The sword was made of Nam Phi iron bought from residents of Nam Phi Village,
an ancientsource of steel of Thailand. The sword itself was etched in designs
and Khmer letters.Six months’ time was spent acquiring Nam Phi iron and three months’ time
casting the swordbefore its completion.

 

         Displays a collection of ancient tools including Phraya Phichai’s weapons. In addition,
stories on his life and ways of living of Ayutthaya people are also exhibited in the museum.

 

         From Uttaradit Province go along the road No.11 about 7 kilometers and turn left onto
Phisanulok-Den Chai until reach the boundary between Den Chai and Uttaradit, that is called
Kao Plueng where the best scenery of Uttaradit is here included many beautifull waterfalls.

 

         Tat Ko Ma Fall has 2 levels, about 70 meters high, located at Ban Hi Ha,
Tambon Ban Dan Na Khan

 

         Mae Choey Waterfall has 3 levels falling down to the basin below, it is similar to
Jam Yang Waterfall. It is located at Ban Mae Choey, Tambon Ban Dan Na Kham.

 

         Jam Yang Fall is at Ban Hi Ha, Tambon Ban Dan Na Kham, it has 7 levels, about 30 meters high.

 

         Jam Yang Fall is a large 3 levels falling from the cliff to large basin below with its 30 meters high. It is located at Ban Mae Choey, Tambon Ban Dan Na Kham.

 

         Northern Railway construction from Taphan Hin station in Pichit province to Khun Tan station in the past had to pass Uttaradit province where huge forest is located, causing lots of workers died during working in this area. Many were buried near the construction site.          After the project was finished, about 5,000 of them were found and kept at the stupa in front of Wat Ta Sao, Mueang Uttaradit district, 3 restorations have been made; worship withoffering is made every year.
